If you take TOPIK in Korea, you do everything on topik.go.kr: sign up with an email address, register and pay during the registration week on a Windows PC, print your admission ticket about two weeks before the test, and check your score and print your certificate there after the results come out. The certificate is free. This guide walks through each screen in order.

⚠️ Outside Korea, registration works differently. Online registration on topik.go.kr is only for tests taken in Korea. Abroad, you register with your country's TOPIK office (often an embassy, Korean Education Center or university), which sets its own dates, fees and refund rules. But you can still print your admission ticket and check your score on topik.go.kr without an account — see the "non-member" steps below.

The site has an English version, but menu names can differ, so we give the Korean labels in brackets.

1. Create an account — email only

Click [회원가입] (Sign up) at the top right. There are four steps:

  1. Agree to the terms and confirm you are 14 or older.
  2. Verify yourself: choose where you live (Korea / abroad) → your nationality → email verification.
  3. Enter your details.
  4. Done.

There is no phone or i-PIN verification any more — foreigners can sign up with just an email.

  • - Under 14? You can't sign up in your own name. A parent signs up, and the test-taker's details are entered at registration.
  • - Don't use a disposable email — accounts can be suspended for it.
  • - ⚠️ Check your English name. The name in your account carries over to the registration, the admission ticket and the score certificate. Before you register, open [마이페이지] → [회원정보수정] (My page → Edit info) and make sure it matches your passport or alien registration card exactly. If the English name on your ID differs even partly from your admission ticket, you can't take the test.

2. Log in

[로그인] → ID and password → type the numbers shown (anti-bot check) → log in.

  • - Forgot something? Use [아이디 찾기] (find ID) or [비밀번호 초기화] (reset password).
  • - The site is under maintenance every day 9:00–10:00 — you can't log in then.
  • - During registration week, [시험접수] (Register) sends you to a separate registration site, register.topik.go.kr. Your ID is the same; no new account needed.

3. When to register

Registration in Korea is a short window — usually one week, about one to three months before the test. The next ones:

TestRegistration (Korea)Test day
PBT 110 (Korea only)Tue, Dec 8 – Mon, Dec 14, 2026Sun, Jan 10, 2027
IBT 17 (Korea only)Tue, Dec 15 – Mon, Dec 21, 2026Sat, Feb 20, 2027
IBT 18Tue, Jan 12 – Mon, Jan 18, 2027Sat, Mar 20, 2027
PBT 111Tue, Jan 26 – Mon, Feb 1, 2027Apr 10–11, 2027

The full year is in our TOPIK 2027 schedule.

Seats run out. When a test center is full it shows "마감" (closed), so in practice it is first come, first served. Rules from recent registration notices:

  • - PBT: the first two days are split by region (for example, Seoul and some provinces on day 1, Gyeonggi, Incheon and the big cities on day 2), then all regions from day 3. New registrations are accepted only 10:00–16:00 each day. The exact regional split changes per test — read the notice.
  • - IBT: registration is also open 10:00–16:00.
  • - Normally there is no extra registration period. Occasionally an extra round opens for leftover seats (PBT 108 did this), but don't count on it.

4. The 8 registration steps

Use a Windows PC with Chrome. Mac and mobile phones are not supported for registration.

  1. Click [시험접수] → go to the registration site.
  2. Log in.
  3. Choose the test and level — PBT or IBT, TOPIK I or TOPIK II.
  4. Basic information — English name, date of birth, gender. ⚠️ After you choose a test center, these three cannot be changed (you would have to cancel, get a refund and register again).
  5. Choose a test center — region → center.
  6. Upload your photo and add extra information.
  7. Pay the fee.
  8. Done. Your registration counts only after payment. Steps 1–4 alone are just a saved draft.

Fees in Korea (2026): PBT TOPIK I 40,000 won · TOPIK II 55,000 won · IBT TOPIK I 70,000 won · TOPIK II 95,000 won. The 2027 fees will be in each registration notice.

Photo rules

  • - Taken within the last 6 months, color, upper body, facing forward, passport size (3.5 × 4.5 cm), plain background.
  • - No hat; hair or glasses frames must not cover your eyes; no retouching.
  • - File: jpg or png, up to 500 KB (the IBT notice gives 413 × 531 px).
  • - This photo appears on your admission ticket and your certificate.

Payment

  • - Only a Korean-issued credit card or a virtual bank account (가상계좌, a one-time account number you transfer to). Foreign cards and overseas transfers don't work. Debit/check cards may fail.
  • - Choose your payment method within 1 hour of registering, or the registration is cancelled. A virtual account must be paid by 23:59 that day. The deadline for card payment is worded differently in each notice — check yours.

Other rules

  • - One ID, one test center. (You can take TOPIK I and II at the same center.)
  • - You can change your test center up to 5 times during the registration period — same level, only to centers with seats left.
  • - Registering with a macro program leads to cancellation, account suspension and no refund.

5. Check or fix your registration

  • - During registration week, check it on register.topik.go.kr. After the deadline: [마이페이지] → [접수현황] (My page → Registration status).
  • - Wrong details? Use [지원자 정보 정정 신청] (request a correction — you email a form and a copy of your ID). For the photo, use [사진 등록/수정]. Corrections are accepted from the day after registration closes until 3 working days before the admission ticket date, and only for limited items.

6. Print your admission ticket

Admission tickets (수험표) are released on the date in the test notice — roughly two weeks before the test — from 10:00 until the test day. Your test number (수험번호) appears at the same time.

  • - Members: log in → [마이페이지] → [접수현황] → [수험표 출력] (print admission ticket).
  • - Non-members (test-takers abroad, or if you lost your ID): on the main page, under 비회원 (non-member), click [수험표 출력] → enter the test round, your test number and your date of birth.

What you really must bring is an original, valid ID — passport, alien registration card, mobile alien registration card and others listed in the notice. If you couldn't print the ticket, a screenshot helps you find your seat. (The government plans to accept fewer types of ID in future — always read the ID list in your test's notice.)

7. Check your score

Results are released at 15:00 Korean time on the result date. IBT results come about three weeks after the test; PBT results take longer (one to two months) — the exact date is in the schedule.

  • - Members: log in → [마이페이지] → [성적현황] (Score status).
  • - Without logging in: click [성적확인] (Check score) at the top → choose the test type (PBT / IBT / speaking test) → enter your test number, the round and your date of birth.

Keep your test number — you need it. There is no score appeal: TOPIK abolished score and question appeals from the 38th test (2015). To see which level your score gives, check the TOPIK score table.

8. Print your score certificate — free

  • - The certificate (성적증명서) is issued only on topik.go.kr. It is not sent by post, fax or email.
  • - It is free. The FAQ says you can print up to 5 times a day.
  • - You can't save it as a file — it prints directly (anti-forgery software is installed). Office PCs, internet cafés and shared printers often fail, so use your own computer.
  • - Universities and employers check it with [성적증명서 진위확인] (Verify certificate) at the top of the site.
  • - Your score is valid for 2 years from the result date. After that, you can't view it or print a certificate.

Test-takers abroad can print their certificate on topik.go.kr too.

9. Cancel and get a refund (in Korea)

Go to [마이페이지] → [접수현황] → [환불신청] (Refund request).

WhenRefund
From registration opening until 10:00 on the last registration day100%
After that, for about 7 days50%
After that, until 13:00 the day before the test40%
After 13:00 the day before, or if you don't show upNone
  • - A refund request can't be undone, and you can't take that test afterwards.
  • - The exact dates are in each test's notice.
  • - Abroad, refunds follow your local TOPIK office's rules.
